Boom, the Gauntlet is back, and the spiciest finding is sitting right at the top. Computer Jocks carry a difficulty of 65 into the rest of the season, the hardest road in The League, with remaining opponents averaging 110.5 points per game. Vitside Mafia isn't far behind at difficulty 60, and they climbed four spots this week, so that buzz saw is getting sharper. You can see the whole picture in the Gauntlet rankings, and I'm told plenty of owners are already rechecking the standings to see who's walking into trouble.
Pacific Pigskins (59) and Fire Ready Aim (58) are right behind them, and Dark Magicians of Chaos at 58 got a little relief after dropping three spots. Money is nice, but championships are better, and these numbers say the contenders in the top tier have to earn every win. Running down the Dream also jumped four spots to difficulty 54, so their path is getting meaner. If you're a team staring at a tough stretch and thinking about shoring up depth, the free agent board is where to look, though remember every pickup signs at no less than the $425K league-minimum salary.
Now for schedule luck, the stat I love most. Vitside Mafia is 8-1 against a soft slate with a past difficulty of 45, so that record flatters them. On the flip side, Maverick sits at 0-9 against a brutal past slate of 55, and Dead Cap Walking is 1-8 against a past difficulty of 57. League sources tell me both of those owners are furious, and they have every right to be. Their records are lying to them, and the schedule is the reason.
Week 7 is the league-wide wall, with average opponent difficulty sitting at 52. That's the trap week everyone needs to respect, because a bad matchup on a tough week can swing a playoff race fast. The biggest riser is Vitside Mafia, up four spots, and the biggest faller is Dark Magicians of Chaos, down three. Cowboy Up at difficulty 39 is the easiest road left in the league, a true breather for anyone who has been getting beaten up.
That's the Gauntlet for Week 7, and I trust this model because I built it to tell the truth about who has earned their record and who has been unlucky. Dig through the full heat map and the week-by-week grid in the Gauntlet rankings, and if you think your roster needs a shake-up before the buzz saw arrives, the trade builder is ready for you. Stay tuned, because I'm already hearing more moves are coming.
