I didn't think about this until just now, but are we still doing this for the playoffs?

Wow, I completely forgot to change that setting. Yes you may now select one non starter as your tiebreak player.

Why don't we make it easier in the future and just have a tiebreak player every week? Ties would be very rare anyway with decimal scoring but why not have a tiebreak player for all games? We used to do the same thing in my league with a tiebreak player only in the playoffs but moved to having 1 every week a few years ago. Just makes these easier on the commish.

I do like the possibility of ties though, but I agree on making my life easier.

In another league I'm in we award the higher seed the tiebreaker in the playoffs, kind of like a home field advantage, and allow ties in the regular season (none so far)?? I'm in another 2 decimal league that does have a tiebreak player all season and it just seems like an extra step.

I've only seen 2 ties though in 20 fantasy seasons with 2 decimals spots. Once this year in Draftmaster, I enjoyed the wrinkle it added towards the end of the season.

Plus they now will always remind me of Donovan McNabb.

This is the first league I've ever been in where that's not how ties in the playoffs are handled.

LOL. And I've never been in a league that does that. Just shows how different our backgrounds are. Every league I'm in has a tie break player and then a laundry list of tiebreaks like the NFL has for wildcard seeding (total TDs, total yards, etc.) They all tried to mimic the NFL as much as possible and the NFL doesn't actually award points for home field advantage or higher seeds. Not that I would be against it, I just don't care for it when we can easily use performance based tiebreakers in which your players actually do something to break the tie.

Wouldn't getting to play the game on your home field be considered the award?

In the NFL perhaps, but in fantasy land home field advantage is nothing. You can't quantify it with points. Even in the NFL home field advantage is only that if the crowd noise effects play calling and such. It's intangible. In fantasy football I don't believe on awarding points for things that aren't actually done on the field. Having a tiebreak player or further tiebreaks based on performance of your players is just that, something that is actually done. Home field advantage in fantasy football is just arbitrarily awarding points for doing nothing other then being a higher seed. So I guess in that light it is based on past performance but still...

I don't look at is as "points", but more as an edge to the home team (higher seed) in the very small chance the game ends in a tie.

It's much more than that. Crowd noise, weather conditions, grass or turf, time zone, and even getting to relax at home the day before and sleeping in your own bed the night before all make a difference.


I don't have a problem with using tiebreaker players. I just stated this was the first league I've ever been in that uses them.

While my first preference would be higher seed advances, another easy alternative for the playoffs would be highest scoring bench player. That way I don't have to make any changes during the playoffs and owners don't have to make an extra selection during the season in the extremely rare chance we do have a tie.

Lets get some other opinions on this and get a vote going before Feb 15th.

I think it comes down to 3 options

Higher seed advances
Highest scoring bench player
tiebreaker player all the time

So far its 2-1 in favor of higher seed anyone else want to throw in their 2 cents?

If you don't like the idea of teams having to choose a tiebreak player then I suggest narrowing it to 2 options that are in effect for playoffs only:

Highest scoring bench player (NOT on Taxi Squad)
Highest seed advances

Actually I think what you could do is put both those as the choices, whichever one gets the highest votes is what we go with. Since we have to have something it's not like we need to chose one and it has to get 75% yes to pass or anything. Basically this vote in my mind is "we have to have playoff tiebreaker and choose which one you like best" type of thing.
